Tuesday, March 12, 2013 – Lahore—Secretary Industries, Commerce and Investment Punjab Dr. Shujaat Ali has said that the economy of the country can be further strengthened by creating awareness among public and private sectors about intellectual property rights and institutional and legal arrangements for their enforcement for creating job opportunities, investment in the country and promotion of innovation in Pakistan. He expressed these views while addressing atraining workshop on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, in Lahore today. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development(PITAD), Industries, Commerce and Investment, Government of the Punjab and World Trade Institute. Dr. Shujaat Ali said that there is a need of modern reforms related to trade and creating new opportunities of investment for local and foreign investors for bringing Pakistan at par with the developed countries. He also threw light on the steps taken in private sector for creating awareness about intellectual property rights and GI registration.
Director General PITAD, Tahir Maqsood thanked International Trade Centre for its services particularly laws relating to trade, intellectual property rights and cooperation in training and research on other issues.
