Cisco Systems Inc. is being sued for trademark infringement over its marketing slogan “Tomorrow Starts Here” by East Carolina University.

The university says its been using its federally registered trademark for more than a decade.

According to a release, East Carolina says the brand “represents an overlapping field of goods and services when compared with that of Cisco” because, in part, its College of Technology and Computer Science has “products and intellectual property that are actively being commercialized.”

All Things D reports that the case is likely to be settled and is “routine” because to hold a trademark “you have to be willing to defend it when someone uses it without your authorization, or you essentially give them permission to keep using it.”
